Spitfires Win The U10 Champions League Final!

Penalty shoot-out Joy!!!

Manager - Ben Quinn

Oakwood Spitfires U10s were fortunate enough to be able to participate in the EDMSL Champions League Final at the Eastleigh Silverlake Stadium on Sunday the 28th of April. The boys had faced a tough run to the final playing teams from the top division in every knockout round to reach the last fixture of the season, including wins over Pace, Hiltingbury Harriers and Hiltingbury Hurricanes to face Hythe and Dibden Avengers.

The game itself was a joy to watch with everything you could want (from a spectator’s perspective) in a final, 6 goals, a penalty shoot-out, fierce tackling, some great expansive play and also a few debatable decisions from the officials. The result at full time was 3-3 after we led 1-0 and 2-1. In the final 10 minutes we found ourselves 3-2 but the boys focused and kept playing the same football they had all season winning a penalty in the last few minutes, which was duly converted. The penalty shoot out was one of the best I have ever witnessed at any level of football, certainly live, with all 10 players hitting the target and only 1 save. Almost every shot hit the side netting with power. Our keeper made an outstanding save which just about kept a powerful 1st penalty out which won us the game but it was very fine margins.

I would just like to say well done to Ady, Tommy, Simon and the Hythe lads (particularly Luca and Oscar, who also play for us on a Saturday) for playing their part in a spectacular final which was a credit to Oakwood, Hythe and Dibden and the EDMSL. Unfortunately that was our last game in the EDMSL but we will look back on our 4 years in the league very fondly and already looking forward to Tyro football next year!

Let the celebrations begin!
